I had to watch HBP again before replying to this thread.
But I agree with Hannah about Harry's eyes. They could have at least digitally recolored them on the computer or something. At least during the closeups. But I do understand if contacts irritated Daniel's eyes or something because contacts do burn sometimes. And I was also really upset that they didn't put Fleur in OOTP. I really wanted to see the engagement party. But part of me was happy that they didn't include it because Clémence Poesy didn't know what went on during OOTP. But I do like the change they did with having Oliver Wood not being burly. And was portrayed as a Scotsman. ![]()

Too funny about this thread. I was coming on to post something similar but a bit different.
There are some things that annoy me and some that I get. Such as the Patil twins both being in Gryffindor in the movies. This used to irritate the crap out of me, but now I get it. I think they do things that will make sense to people that have never read the books while keeping as true to the storyline as possible. Hermione's hair is better not frizzy, honestly. I know that's how it's supposed to be, but I'll give them a break on that one. I will say, however, that HBP still pisses me off. The way that they handled Dumbledore's death scene SERIOUSLY pisses me off. And the fact that they didn't have Snape yelling at Harry telling him to practice occlumency, etc. really bugs me. That's what set Snape up to be on the side of the Order the entire time. I really like HBP, but every time I watch that part it drive me BONKERS. Additionally, Sirius' death scene still pisses me off. He wasn't hit by the killing curse by Bellatrix and the fact that they had him hit by the Avada Kedavra in the movie bothers me. I've always been annoyed by that! I think the actors have great skill for their parts but Lily and James were about twenty when they died, right? So that would mean that when Sirius died he would have been 36, not older than that. Alan's in his fifties so that bothers me although he is just brilliant as Snape. It's really a bittersweet issue of sorts, I suppose? While I'm not so much on your side with Voldemort, I agree about Emma. It's not that I want them to purposely make her ugly or anything - or add in the buck teeth - but they could make her a little less stunning. She stands out too much, I think. All of those subplots I loved! Amazing scenes were cut. The marauders subplot was why I loved PoA so much and Curon not only directed a movie where that subplot was cut but made everything so... I don't know. Awful, I suppose. I really hate the third movie, personally. I also agree that they didn't capture Harry's frustration well. His overall characterization is lacking a bit, I think. Dumbledore as a hippie looking guy - not to mention being Michael Gambon - has always bothered me. I don't think Dumbledore was anything like that, but that's another topic for another day. Cinds also brought up a great point about Quidditch. It was such a huge thing for Harry as a character and Gryffindor winning the Quidditch Cup was definitely a subplot I enjoyed and that I think was important especially to make Gryffindor house equal with the rest of the houses. You know, saying that they had been underdogs and just because Harry is in this house doesn't mean that everything is wonderful about that house in particular. As many of you have mentioned, the Patil twins both being in Gryffindor was annoying. Pavarti + Lavender = BFF. FTW. End of story. Not much else to say there. I'd love to criticize more but I must head off to work! |

But as we know now, it's not that they're green that's important: it's that they're Lily's eyes, and that they have made obvious.

So, I've read what everyone said about their personal pet peeves so far, and I have to say that I agree with most of it (Harry's eyes, the Yule ball dress etc.). But, I've made my peace with all of it more or less. However, the one thing that I will never get over is the fact that they put Voldemort in a suit in OoTP. A SUIT!!! Did they really think that the most badbutt (
) wizard ever would wear a suit?!? Did they completely forget that he hates muggles and any and everything muggle-related? Why did they do this? Somebody...please...tell me why.

As far as movies based on books go... I think the Harry Potter movies do a great job. They really do justice to the books and I have been pleased with pretty much every installment. It's hard to find that.... so the little inconsistencies, I can deal with (except I think Dobby should have been featured more)

That makes sense Bex, and I understand that it was his imagination and paranoia and everything. But, it just irked and bothered me to no end lol (I guess it seems that I totally missed the whole point of that scene huh?)...I just couldn't wrap my head around it.

I agree with everything you guys have said, and here are a few more off the top of my head:
-The lack of house elves in GoF. I mean, Winky was important to the story! And Dobby was supposed to give the gillyweed. Come on, you had enough money to animate some house elves! -Them cutting out most of Snape's memory in OotP. That was part of the whole basis for the Snape/Lily relationship, and we didn't see half of it. -Adding in that scene in HBP with Bellatrix and Greyback just showing up at the Burrow. First of all, the Burrow is supposed to be very well-protected in HBP. And, the house could never get lit on fire, then where would we be for the beginning of Deathly Hallows at the wedding? -I've never liked how they portrayed Dumbledore since Richard Harris died. Gambon just seems angry ALL the time. Dumbledore's supposed to be the picture of serene, even in bad circumstances. Richard Harris was it for me, so it's a shame he died. Just to name a few. ![]() |
