It didn't help having Jordan pretty much force her to attend the latest damn event to hit Jacksonville, and leave her without much of a response but 'okay'. Her friend knew how to be pretty damn persuasive when she set her mind to it, and Lara definitely couldn't argue against the whole, 'needing to get out and have some fun' that the other blonde flung at her. Life hadn't exactly been fun recently for the Grant female though she endeavoured to indulge herself every now and then. Why ever not, right? Anything to distract herself from the fears she was about to lose her livelihood from underneath her worked as far as Lara was concerned! Just contemplating the possibility made her feel sick, knowing just how hard her parents, certainly her father, had worked to make it a success.

Choosing an outfit had been made all the more difficult knowing she had to scrub up well and be able to stand alone alongside not only Jordan but Blair too. Although she didn't know Blair too well, Lara knew her enough to know she was pretty damn stunning. Damn her... She also didn't know exactly what to wear and what would be expected of her. This was the reason the blonde didn't attend many of these social functions. That and the whole, 'so what do you do for a living?' discussion tended to end the conversational flow when she responded with, 'Currently I work on my dad's farm, trying not to run it into the ground and to keep the solicitors at bay and hoping the very real likelihood that it has to go on the market doesn't transpire'. Yeah that tended to leave people a little open-mouthed and gape jawed. Lara didn't blame them. Her life was boring right now. She wouldn't want to talk to herself if she came across her. Of course that didn't tend to make it fun going out and mingling, which was why she was relieved that tonight would involve a group of them and all people Jordan and Blair presumably knew thus making the awkward factor much less.

Lara felt completely exposed in her dress. She had allowed Jordan to talk her into going for the more daring option though she began to regret her option the moment they arrived and she saw other people's attire. "I'm completely under-dressed. And I totally blame you for this." she hissed, glaring at Jordan as her friend complimented her appearance. "Pffft, whatever, Claybourne!" she volleyed back, a pout settling on her lips as she glanced around at the growing number of people arriving. Tuning out of the conversation momentarily, she found herself squirming more and paying no attention until Blair chimed in about people she knew. "Okay, I made an effort, came to your stupid event, got dressed up even if I am showing too much flesh...can someone please tell me why you made me come? You're not forgetting I have better things to do I trust. I mean I could be painting my toenails!" she joked, still a little miffed and simultaneously trying to at least project the image of having fun and not freaking out over the farm. Freaking out seriously wasn't working in her favour so far. "These 'friends' of yours....unless they're Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp I'm not interested!" she teased, waiting to see exactly where this conversation was headed.
